HMA Techniplan design and supply a range of Telescopic Boom Lift Elevating Work Platforms (EWP) for attachment to Hi-Rail vehicles. The Elevating Work Platforms can either be permanently attached, bolted or attached with twist locks to the tray body of the Hi-Rail vehicle.

Hi-Rail Elevating Work Platforms are supplied complete with electrical control systems with single or multiple control stations.  A full range of controls are available from the EWP basket including:

Main boom (Raise and Lower), Main boom (continuous slew left or right) Telescopic boom (Extend and Retract), fly jib (Raise and Lower), Basket Tilt (Up and Down) Basket slew (Left and Right), Live Side Isolation, Emergency Lower, Emergency Stop, Hi-Rail Truck Travel (Forward and Reverse), Braking, Engine Control (Stopping and Starting)

Hi-Telescopic Boom Lift Elevating Work Platform optional features also include 240V AC Electrical GPO’s, Hydraulic Intensifier Outlets for crimping tools and pneumatic outlets.

The spacious 2 man basket with working load limit of 300Kg maximizes the space available for carrying tools and providing maneuvering space for personnel. The compact basket size combined with multi-axis boom including fly jib enables the basket to be accurately and precisely located in the tightest of spaces in an around the overheads

Hydraulic and electrical systems are integrated with the Hi-Rail truck’s PTO, transmission and Engine Management System (EMS).  This results in the very accurate and smooth control of the Hi-Rail vehicle when travelling from the cabin and accessing the overhead from the Elevating Work Platform basket. The Hi-Rail vehicle can also be used off track for accessing behind the masts and around the overhead equipment.

Operators undergoing equipment familiarization on a narrow gauge hydrostatic Hi-Rail 16T gross vehicle mass (GVM) Mercedes Atego 1628 truck in Western Australia. This HMA Techniplan Hi-Rail Vehicle is fitted with a telescopic boom lift with a 300kg elevating work platform (EWP) capable of reach approaching 7m and a height approaching 10m. The boom is capable of continuous rotation and in addition, the basket rotates +/- 90 degrees. The Hi-Rail vehicle can be controlled from the EWP in both travel and work modes.  A joystick controller working in conjunction with the hydrostatic transmission enables the Telescopic Boom Lift operator to ‘creep’ travel the Hi-Rail vehicle very accurately while fully extended. The 16 T GVM Hi-Rail vehicle has a relatively small wheelbase which ensures that the truck is very easy to get on and off track, even at the narrowest crossings.
